The transhumance of local shepherds in Maremma to winter with their flocks allowed a first contact with the ball of cork and the opportunity to learn how to work it. The bark of the cork came to Cervarezza and was handmade in houses and cellars, by all members of families, to obtain the first rudimentary stoppers. Following the work has industrialized and continues today through local operators who have preserved this important tradition of life and culture.
