Description
The place-name of this hamlet also known as Monchio di Sarzano or Monchio dei Ferri or dei Rossi, comes from "munticuculus" which means place near a hill.
The hamlet situated to the east of the same-name mount, spreads over slopes declining on the left of the Crostolo torrent, in an enviable position.
It's divided into groups of houses.
The first one you reach is in the north and is made up of the more modern buildings and void of any particular interest.
The other is at about 100 mt south-east where the road ends and the more antique nucleus is.
The court complex of the Rossi's is undoubtedly the focal point of the hamlet and one of the more remarkable of the Apennines.
The buildings are arranged around the central courtyard spreading on two angular towers which bear evident 16th century characteristics.
The first tower, soaring and elegant has a square foundation while the other is squat, thick, and lower;
Next to the Rossi dwellings there's an oratory dedicated to Madonna della Ghiara.
