Itinerary in Detail:
The itinerary, of a fairly naturalistic character, starts from the Piazza of Puianello (140 m), at the intersection between the mountain base road and the SS 63. You climb to the parochial church of Puianello and, once past the cemetery, you take the large un-paved road to the left following the ridge. Climbing it's possible to admire the Crostolo valley, the valley of the Bercemme and the high Reggiano plain as far off as the administrative capital. Once past Mt Corniola (424 m), you descend to an intersection, once past that you climb Mt Mandorle (441 m), and Mt Pentile (493 m), surrounded by a re-foresting pine-wood and small woods. Once at the peak of Mt Sella, the highest and most panoramic point of the route, you descend keeping the right, and you get to the town of Carbognano (550 m). You cross it and reach the paved road that connects Quattro Castella with the castle of Canossa; after 500 m you take the path that leads to the castle.
