Casola Querciola - 42030 Viano
How to get there:
- From the administrative capital, it's 8 km away, it can be reached taking the SP 89 up to Regnano where you take the SP 63 in the direction of Cà Bertacchi.
- From Reggio Emilia the area is easily reached taking the SP 63 which from Albinea leads to Regnano. About a kilometer before the town, in the fraction of Cà Bertacchi, you take a gravel road up to the location of Cà Nova.
Distance: 18 km.
Even though the origin of the "salse" is not connected to volcanoes, they too can produce spectacular eruptions, one of these, which took place at the beginning of the 18th century, greatly alarmed the inhabitants of the area.

Unlike the Salsa of Regnano the area is involved with agricultural activities and the frequent aerations do not permit salsa activity. The one of Casola, besides, is smaller than the one of Regnano, even if it has a higher number of "mouths". It may not be easy to locate the exit mouths of the mud, which is fluid and gray. In a few muddy water wells certain water movements are the sign of gaseous emissions. The surface surrounding the cones is arid and void of vegetation due to the high level of salt of the expelled mud, thus the popular name of "salse" (sauces).
