Analytical text:

Santa Maria di Castello, which was the summer residence of the bishop of Reggio, is a hamlet situated in a very charming scenic position and retains undoubted environmental value. The hamlet is arranged in a line and in a scaled fashion along the dividing line on the top of the right side bank of the Fagiano brook. In the emphyteusis agreement between the bishop and the Marquis Bonifacio di Canossa, in 1070, Querciola was among the castles destined to the bishop. IN 1252 the Foglianis were invested and kept possession of it, except for brief interruptions until 1739, when the last descendent renounced, it passed on the Estensi Dukedom chamber. The castle was equipped with two guard towers: the first was placed on the hill not far from the hamlet and up to recently there was not much left of it except for a small room; the 2nd tower was instead on the Guardia mount. To visit in the location are: the church, already cited in the Tithes of 1302 as dependent on the Baiso Parish.
