Description:
Selvapiana is a very relaxing area, during Azzo da Correggio's time it hosted Francesco Petrarca: that was in 1341. Inspired by the tranquillity of the place, the great poet finished his opera: "De Africa". With reference to this, already in 1815 the idea of erecting a monument in his honor in this place came to pass; the project finally came to life between 1839 and 1847 thanks to a group of scholars and artists supported by the duchess of Parma, Maria Luigia. Recently restored, today it is a destination f many tourists who come to admire the statue placed inside a small temple, made by Tomaso Bandini, the decorations, instead, are by Francesco Scarmuzza.
