Additional information:
Excursions: the visit starts from Ponte del Pianello, from where it descends along the gravely shore of the river, in the heart of the gypsum valley. From here it goes into the woods, where you can admire the characteristics of the flora and the vegetation and you will visit an old "metato", a building which in the past was used to desiccate chestnuts. Walking once again, you will reach the mouth of a carsic cave, the "Tanone Grande della Gacciolina", one of the most important grottos in the area.
The excursion continues with the climb to the village of Sologno, the visit can end here, with a brief walk in the most charming part of the village, or continue with the climb to Monti Pianellina (851 m), from the old peak of which you can admire a wide view of the valley.
From the mount you then descend to the Fonti di Poiano, abundant springs known for their "saline" water (sulfate carbonate calcium soda)

Analytical text:

South of Bismantova near the shore of the Secchia, between Mts. Rosso, Carù, Merlo, La Pianellina and Pradale you can admire spectacular outcrops of Triassic gypsums (they're among the most ancient rocks in the Apennines, more than 200 million years old with caves, dolines, mouths, crystal of all shapes and dimensions). The area of gypsums is situated in the higher Secchia Valley on the border with the towns of Busana, Castelnovo ne' Monti and Villa Minozzo. The naturalistic and environmental value is quite high, in particular due to the presence of there very ancient rocks (The period named Trias dates back to 200 million years) and for the examples of carsic morphology. The particular naturalistic wealth is completed with the Secchia river and the woods which in part cover the slopes of the surrounding reliefs. On careful observation there are also numerous traces of the man- land relationship: chestnut woods, mills "metati", examples of the local architecture, cultivated fields and small vineyards.
