Forest of Veline
How to get there:
At the end of the inhabited area of Ligonchio, rising in the direction of the passo di Pradarena, after the oratory of S. Rocco, you continue towards the location of Presa Alta o the unpaved road or along the CAI path 633. At Presa Alta you continue along the CAI paths 627 and 629 (from Presa Alt around 2h; 633 + 627: 3h30')
At the location Montecagno, a fraction which is 8 kms from the administrative capital, you continue along an unpaved road until you get to the passo Cisa, where you take the CAI path 623 (from the passo Cisa: 2h)Apennines
At the foot of Mount Cusna, in the territory of the Town of Ligonchio, the Costa delle Veline is noteworthy, especially for the high wood of beech and for the presence of a few century old trees there within. Also noteworthy are some interesting glacial morphologies, moraines, peatbogs, small lakes. The high altitude beech wood, called the Wood of the Veline, which ancient times was used as a supply f wood, today is one of the most valuable and interesting woods in the high apennines. Every year it is visited by many trekkers both for its beauty and for its rich array of woodland plants (mushrooms, etc.).
