Remarkably important is the necropolis of Campo Pianelli, already an object of research since the last century. At the time a few dozen tombs were excavated: the oldest burials dated back to the XI century B.C., while the more recent ones are attributable to the VI-V century B.C. The excavation campaigns carried out in 1973 ascertained the existence of a complex stratigraphical succession with traces, besides the necropolis, of a protovillanovian (iron age) type settlement. This civilization was characterized by a highly agricultural economy and by elevated metal productivity; the bronze finds placed near the burials are in fact quite numerous. The remains of the burials were kept in refined terracotta vases finely decorated, having biconic shape, afterwards placed inside small, dry stone shafts covered by calcareous slabs. Many of these archeological remains which have surfaced are on display at the Civic Museum of Reggio Emilia.
