The inhabited center spreads over the northern slopes of Mount Ferrari, in an area between the Tassobbio torrent and the Leguigno Rio
Place of antique history, it was mentioned in 1188 regarding the oath to the Municipality of Reggio Emilia.
In 1196 the territory was nominated amongst the properties of the "castrum" of Gombio in which Campiliola first and then Marola had possessions. A few traces of the Gombio castle remain on Mount Castello, south-west of the villa.
The church of Santa Maria of Gombio rises about 1 km to the west of the hamlet.
The current hamlet has undergone fairly minimal restoration operations, which has allowed most of the original construction structures to remain visible.
The tower house belonging to the Ridolfi family probably dates back to the 16th - beginning 17th century.
Not far away you can see two particularly significant buildings belonging to the 15th - 16th century.
A blind portal visible at the base of the building bears in chiave the date "1576". On the façades of other buildings you can see stone features of the 14th - 15th century to which a narrow raised portal, probably of the same period, is connected.
On the border of the hamlet there's a 16th century tower house belonging to the Landini. The plan is with a square foundation with four sloped roof tile surmounted by a niche dovecot defined by a floor border made of brick arranged in a saw edged design.
there's a noteworthy small ceiling eave fir the T-shaped brick decorations with inserted holes for the swifts.
On the northern side there's an engraved architrave with the depictions of a six-pointed celtic rose and a Latin cross which stands out.
