Historical Origins:

Historical origins
The first evidence of vineyards denominated "lambruschi" are from the Etruscans, but the most significant historical documents are from the roman period, when the wild local grapevines which grew spontaneously from seeds, were called "lambrusche". Only in an opera of 1596 will the term "lambrusca" represent a specific variety instead of a wild grapevine. The first international recognition dates back to the Paris Exposition of 1900, where the Lambrusco Reggiano received a bronze medal. In the 20th century the first cooperative wine grower's associations were created and in 1971 the wine obtained the "doc" denomination (controlled origin denomination).
