Description
Maiola occupies the summit of a relief on the eastern foot of Mt. Fiore, at the center of a natural amphitheater which protects it from northern winds.
the extensive chestnut woods which cover the rocky buttresses thin out near the hamlet, substituted by a slightly declining meadow.
The Maiola Rio isolates the vast wooded surface making it look like a natural promontory leading into the Maillo valley.
Maiola is not particularly rich in historical remnants, its houses are divided in a scaled fashion along the slope, leaning one next to the other.
the simple gets fro nature its constructive elements.
It is precisely this natural character which makes the hamlet interesting, interventions have been contained and the original architectural landscape has reached us almost unaltered.
The 16th century palace of the Maioli is the only building which stands out among the other constructions.
an antique local tradition states that the hamlet was founded by a soldier of Countess Matilde, founder of the Maioli family.
