Opening times:

The castle of Viano dates back to medieval centuries, it occupies the top of a relief in the valley of Tresinaro river. The fortification occupies a large area and is divided between a high square tower, crenellated, visible to the west and the stately building with circular tower that rises to the east. Between the two buildings there is the village, with a linear layout with terraced buildings.
Today the castle is an agricultural estate, with restaurant and accommodation. For more information: https://www.castellodiviano.it/

Description
What is left of the castle is fruit of restoration which took place in 1970 by the proprietors. There are a few ruins of the antique dilapidated walls of 1793.
In 1335 the Fogliani were the first owners of the castle, a strategic position for their dominions in thearea.
In 1370 the construction of a new castle was underway, perhaps following destruction of the previous fortification, as is attested by a memorial slab.
The castle, except for a brief subjection t the Estensi, remained property of the Fogliani up until 1589.
In 1596 the castle passed over to Count Pompeo Aldrovandi of Bologna and remained property of his descendants until the abolition of feuds.
