Description
Situated near the confluence of the Spirola Rio with the Secchia river, Gatta is a nucleus of great monumental value with an undifferentiated urban plan.
It was a feud of the Munarini, in 1615 it was included as a rural hamlet of Vologno. In 1616 the Gatti, a prominent family of the area, built an oratory dedicated to Sant'Antonio of Padua which in 1669 became parochial.
In the 18th century there was an important dyeworks.
The site was inhabited during the Roman period and recently a few burials of bust provided with outfits have resurfaced.
The antique palace rises inside a complex dating back to the 16th century. The oratory dedicated to Sant'Antonio of Padua is now a service dwelling. the functional aspect of the nucleus was represented by a mill, already abandoned and restructured as a residential complex.
The most significant emerging architectural feature is the "Palazzo Nuovo".
