Description:
Particularities of Cervarezza is the processing of cork for the production of caps. According to testimony and documents gathered this ancient craft is lost in the mists of time. The transhumance of local shepherds in Maremma to winter with their flocks allowed a first contact with the ball of cork and the opportunity to learn how to work it. The bark of the cork came to Cervarezza and was handmade in houses and cellars, by all members of families, to obtain the first rudimentary stoppers. Following the work has industrialized and continues today through local operators who have preserved this important tradition of life and culture. And 'possible to trace the history of this unique tradition of visiting the local Museum of Cork.
